Four Week Stats

Reid is trying to charm his momma! :)

We took Reid to his four week doctor appointment yesterday.  He’s grown a lot since his two week check-up!  Here are his stats:

  • Weight:  10lbs 9.5 oz (72 percentile)
  • Height: 23 in  (92 percentile)
  • Latest milestones: big smiles, even better head control, reacting to our faces, rolling from his tummy to his back and “playing” with a rattle.

Jer will upload a video soon to show off Reid’s musical talents!  Aunt Stephanie will be proud of our future percussionist!

Thanks, Ammy and Papa!!

My parents drove down from Ohio to help out after Jenny’s family had to go back to work.

They have been such a tremendous help over the past four weeks and have allowed us to maintain as much sanity as possible with a newborn!

My mom (Dana, aka Ammy) is a helping, cleaning, and cooking dynamo, while my dad (Bob, aka Papa) is always at the ready to help with the household projects.  Most of all, we are thankful for all their love and cuddles for little Reid!

Happy First (Month) Birthday, Reid!

It’s hard to believe that our little man has been out in the world for four weeks. In some ways, it feels like the birth was forever ago, and yet sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday.

We’ve tried to capture as much of the last four weeks as possible on film. Checkout our online photo albums for all the photos that haven’t yet made it to the blog:

Reid’s First Swing

Here is a short video from Reid’s first time in his swing, taken a few weeks ago at the beginning of April.

This video was shot with our Canon PowerShot SX10 IS, which seems  to serve decently in a dual still/video camera role. This is not the best video, but we’ve got to start somewhere. Hopefully this will be the first of many videos to share with friends and family on our blog.

Reid’s Fourth Week

It is hard to believe our little man will be four weeks old tomorrow!   Now that I’m feeling so much better, we got out and about a lot more in the past week – thank goodness!!  Reid had his first trip to the Apple Store, Chuy’s patio for dinner and Amy’s Ice Cream, to name a few.  We even met Jer for lunch one day – hopefully we’ll do that more often!

Family outing to get Amy's Ice CreamHe really seems to love baths!  (We’ll get more pictures as we get better at handling a squirmy wet baby!)

Reid likes being in the tubby! "ahhh...I feel so much better now..." With Jer back at work, and Reid being a champion eater, we decided to try having Jer give him breastmilk from a bottle.  It is a nice way for Jer and Reid to spend time together, and I get a break!Reid's first bottleJust this week we’ve noticed that he really seems to like quiet time with us just looking around and talking to him.  He’s very observant!  I even gave him a little baby massage – who wouldn’t like that?!He loves to hang out and take it all in...

This is the first installment of a new and regular series on the blog where we will post a somewhat random and (hopefully) fun photo from the past. Our first Fun Photo comes from beautiful Savannah, Georgia.

Rainy Friday in Austin

It is a dark and rainy day.  To be more specific, it’s the kind of day where you just want to stay in your PJs all day and take a nap.

Happy Easter, Reid!

Our big eyed Easter Bunny...

We had a nice Easter at home with our little man.  In the afternoon, we took a short walk in the park near our house and shot some photos.

Waiting for Ruby Hope

Today my friend is waiting for her little one, Ruby Hope, to arrive.  (We were in big belly yoga together throughout our pregnancies.  She was also my running coach a few years ago!)

I’m thinking of them and wish them a healthy delivery and a speedy recovery for little Ruby!  Please think of them and send them your well wishes and prayers for their little bundle.

A Few New (Material) Things I Love

Reid has been here for ten days.  In addition to the overwhelming love for him, in that short time I have come to love a few new material things.   I’m sure this list will grow, but here’s a start:The most comfy chair in the house!

My new glider chair – so comfy!

My iPhone breast-feeding tracker – I’m now officially addicted to my iPhone.  (And Jer loved the contraction tracker during our first 14 hours of labor.)

Text messaging – I wasn’t much of a texter before, but it is super handy to ask Jer for something when he is in another room, without having to disturb the little man or let the whole house know that I need him to take the baby while I go potty.  Again.  :-)

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste – enough said.

The “Snot rocket” – (or a nasal aspirator, if you prefer…) you don’t want details, but thank goodness for this thing!

Rock-a-bye Baby music – it’s music we love, but lullaby-ified.  We had a good night last night and Rock-a-bye Baby is getting some of the credit for that!

The Miracle Blanket – my friend Danielle gave us a stash of these.  She was right:  they are AWESOME.

What a Week!!

After spending his first few days in the hospital, it was wonderful to finally get our little guy home.  He has been so fun to get to know and watch all his little faces and movements now that he is “on the outside” or, as my Uncle Alex, the OB doctor, calls it, “exteriorized.”   :)

We first saw him stick out his tongue in our 28 week sonogram and here it is again! :)We first saw him stick out his tongue in our 28 week sonogram and here it is again! :)

Reid’s first doctor appointment went well and we learned he is gaining weight – a huge relief for me because it means that breastfeeding is going well.

Reid met his Great Uncle Matt and Great Aunt Ellen while they are in Central Texas on a visit.  Great timing!

My Uncle Matt and Aunt Ellen met Reid!Sadie Belle has been curious about the little man, and slightly nervous, it seems.  She stays pretty close to us and wants to play a lot.Jer is a happy guy with Sadie Belle and Reid.We are all still getting to know each other. We said goodbye to my mom on Thursday. We appreciated all her help!  Luckily, she was able to stay long enough to “hand off” to Jer’s parents (Bob and Dana), who arrived on Thursday.  They have already been a big help and we appreciate them!

Papa and ReidAmmy and ReidFriday was a beautiful day here in Austin so we took Reid out for his first lounge on the patio.  It was so nice!Yes, the hat is too big and very dorky, but it was so sunny!Happy Momma with her little manDaddy loving on ReidI missed Reid’s first bath in the hospital, so I was excited for the little guy’s sponge bath Friday night!  Hopefully he’ll enjoy taking a tubby as much as his cousins do!We kept him covered so he wouldn't get too chilly! He was a good sport most of the way through......okay! He's had enough! Do you see Sadie escaping through the doggie door in the background? It got noisey!More to come!

Family Helpers

While Jenny and I were stuck in the hospital for 5 days, Jenny’s family came down to Austin to meet our little one. They did a wonderful job of taking care of the house and Sadie Belle, and we are very, very grateful to have such a wonderful family for Reid.

Here are a few photos we managed to take of him with family during those very busy first few days at the hospital.

Betsy, Chris, Karon and Reid.Gramma, Chris and Karon got their first glimpse of Reid during his bath in the nursery.

Aunt Karon and Reid on his birthday!

Aunt Karon loves to squeeze babies! Reid cannot wait to meet is cousin Annabelle!

Avery and Reid Cousin Avery got to meet little Reid and was very curious about the little guy.  She said. “Hi Baby Weed!”

Aunt Stephanie, Uncle James and Reid Uncle James and Aunt Stephanie were  excited to meet their new nephew.  (Jenny thinks that Reid looks a lot like Avery did as a newborn.)

Jenny’s Mom (Betsy) stayed for an extra couple days once we got home to keep us fed and provide another set of hands for anything Reid needed, especially cuddles and diaper changes, which seem to require three people!

Betsy was sad to leave Baby Reid...and we were sad to see her go, too!

THANKS SO MUCH!  IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE YOU ALL  HERE!
