Our Little Pumpkin

Let’s play a game.  I’ll ask a question and you answer.

It’s a beautiful Saturday in October.  What do you do?

A)  Drive out to the lake to have lunch and/or margaritas with people you love and talk about how great it is to live in Austin.

B)  Go to a friend’s house to watch college football for your favorite team.

C)  Drive out to a field filled with pumpkins…take WAY TOO MANY photos of your kiddo squinting at you…or better yet, not looking at you at all – or the mountains of pumpkins – but looking at the hay.  (“Hey!  It’s HAY!”)

If you answered “C” then you are either a parent, or you are crazy. Momma's little pumpkin is laughing at Daddy 10-24-09Last year, when I was preggo, Kellie and I talked about how next year we’d go together to the pumpkin patch with our kiddos.  Once I saw how much fun Ethan had, I knew this would be something fun to do with Baby Remington.  I’ve been looking forward to taking Reid here since before he arrived!  :)

We met Kellie, Dave & Ethan, and Sara & Kate out at the pumpkin patch.  The two-year olds knew just what to do:  climb on the pumpkins and smile for the camera. Ethan, Kate & Reid...Kate knows what to do for the camera! 10-24-09 As you can see, Reid was more interested in the grass and blanket we put him on!Reid at the pumpkin patch, 10-24-09Reid was fascinated by the baby goats.  (Of course, why would I take pictures of the goats when I could take pictures of my guys?)Reid & Daddy check out the baby goats at the pumpkin patch, 10-24-09 And as if that wasn’t cute enough, the experienced Mommas told me to bring a Halloween costume for Reid because they were going to get some pics with their kiddos in costume with the pumpkins.  I’m (still!) not finished with Reid’s costume for this year, so luckily, we had a Tigger costume from my friend Stacey’s Charlie who was Tigger last year!

Kate was so sweet to Baby Reid! Isn't she a doll?! Fairy Kate, Tigger Reid & Cowboy Ethan, 10-24-09How hard is it to get a photo of three kids faces (not even looking at the camera…we just wanted faces!) when you put them on top of a bail of hay?  Well, I took a dozen and this is the best one:  Cowboy Ethan, Fairy Kate & Tigger Reid, 10-24-09That’s some damn interesting hay.Hey! Reid & Ava Join Double Date Night

Remember little Ava?  Reid was born two days after Ava.  We had our first playdate with Mommas and babies back in early May when they were only a month old.

We saw Ava and her parents Chris and Susan for a double date.  We went to Z-Tejas and sat out on the patio.  Reid was interested in checking out Ava, but being a gentleman, he asked her parents first.  Reid & Ava - 6 1/2 months oldReid & Ava - 6 1/2 months oldSusan & Ava, 10-16-09After dinner, it started to get a little chilly on the patio so we bundled him up and he kept playing happily!Reid enjoying date night on the patio of Z-Tejas, 10-16-09

Nothing Like a Martini at the End of the Day…

…oh, what did you think I was talking about?IMG_7967 We’ve seen more of the Martini family lately – which is awesome.  Life gets busy, but we have to make the time for people we love.

Here are some photos from our recent visits to Casa Martini.Reid loved Ethan's soft blocks! 10-9-09 Gran giving Reid some love 10-9-09 We went on a walk with Ethan into the "woods" around his house. 10-3-09We’ll have to get together again very soon…

The Hunger Strike is Over

Reid is digging the applesauce/oatmeal combo Momma served for breakfast! 10-20-09Reid was a great eater at first, and then he went on a hunger strike after we had the nerve to serve him oatmeal.  I’m happy to report that he’s back to eating and now has a wide variety of foods he likes.  Check out this video of our little birdy in action.  (Try to ignore the annoying “mommy voice.”  I can’t help it!!) Reid's first taste of sweet potatoes, 10-3-09Reid loves applesauce, pears, bananas, sweet potatoes, carrots and butternut squash.  Luckily, the list of things he likes is growing! Daddy is feeding Reid carrots at our friends' Emily & Steve's house. 10-11-09 He does not like avocado or peas.  Maybe its a green thing…This picture was BEFORE he realized what was on the spoon. He was not thrilled with the peas, but he ate a respectable amount. 10-20-09

Reid’s New Trick: Sitting and Waiting

When Reid woke up from his morning nap this is how I found him:The first time Reid sat up in his cribby. He's quite proud of himself, don't you think? 10-16-09This morning was the first time he’s tried this particular trick in his cribby.  I bet he likes the new latitude and its probably only a matter of time before he figures out he can pull up.  (Oh, help me!)

He’s been scotching around for the past couple weeks –not crawling – but definitely scotching.  He’ll be on his hands and knees and push back up into a sitting position.  He’ll reach for a toy while sitting and then flop onto his tummy.  He’ll roll from back to front, then front to back.

And as much as Daddy has tried to encourage him, and the private lesson from Ethan, he hasn’t crawled, yet.Ethan Martini gives Reid a lesson on crawling 10-6-09Reid is learning new “tricks” every day.  But still, Sadie Belle is not impressed.Sadie Belle can't figure out what the fuss is about with this noisey little guy! 10-6-09

Reid Meets Gramma!

If you know me well, you know how much I adore my Gramma.  This pic is nearly four years old but it is one of my favorites of us with Gramma. 11-05-05Stephanie, Gramma I me at our rehursal dinner in Key West, 2005. She’s a phenomenal woman and a loving mother of 13, grandmother of 21, and great-grandmother to six (and counting!)

Reid had the honor to meet her and spend the afternoon with her on a day-trip while we were in Cleveland visiting.   I feel so lucky that Jer’s family lives so close to Erie, PA, where Gramma lives, so we visit her a couple times a year.

Reid and I drove to visit Gramma’s new home in Fairview, just outside of Erie.  She lives in a very nice community with her husband Boyd.  We had a really nice visit there, and discovered that Reid really likes Boyd’s voice!  Boyd kept Reid’s attention throughout our visit!Boyd, Gramma and Reid, 9-11-09Reid and Gramma checking each other out. 9-11-09We had a nice lunch with my Aunt DiDi and Aunt Mary Pat.  Reid showed off his table manners by grabbing for everything in site and putting his feet on the table.  :)Aunt DiDi and Reid, 9-11-09Aunt Mary Pat & Reid, 9-11-09It was really special to see Gramma with Reid and to talk with her about when her babies were babies.  I only wish our visit was longer and we’d had more time to sit and talk.

We had a wonderful visit and I can’t wait for us to get back to see our family in Erie again soon!Reid, Gramma and me, 9-11-09
